Director of dreadful movie allegedly assaults women to light up his life

Joseph Brooks
It could be a case of life imitating art except the “art” in question is the cheesy 1977 movie /song “You Light Up My Life,” about a comedienne (Didi Conn) who dreams of being actress so she sleeps with a director.
Well it’s been 30 years since writer/director Joseph Brooks created that scenario but it doesn’t mean he’s still not trying to play the game.
Now 70 years old, Brooks has been accused by at least four women of being lured to his home for auditions and being sexually assaulted.
According to the Associated Press, police are investigating whether Brooks, who won an Oscar for that treacly ballad sung by Debby Boone, advertised upcoming film roles on Internet postings as a ploy to assault women.
When a woman responded to an audition call, Brooks (who hasn’t directed a movie for 10 years) would tell her she’d be playing a prostitute and would have her drink shots and perform sex acts on him, police said. Some women believe they might have been drugged, police said.
So it wasn’t so much a casting couch as a casting street corner.
At least four incidents are alleged to have happened in the spring of 2008, according to police.
Brooks hasn’t yet been charged.
