In America, we’re accustomed to our political leaders and religious leaders being sexual hypocrites.

In Iran, where the religious leaders often are the political leaders, it’s a new experience.

But thanks to the Internet, they sure are getting into it.

As reported in the New York Post, the most popular video in Iran, according to Balatarin.com (the Iranian Digg.com) is of a robed, married, cleric caught on a hidden camera meeting a fully-clothed woman (not his wife) in a private room.

“Nobody saw you come in, did they?” he asks her as she removes her chador (think burqa with an opening in the front).

“Want to do some Nasnas?” he asks her.

To Iranians, Nasnas is a mythological monster, but he might as well have said “Want to do the Nasty?”

The cleric was apparently a member of the government-run Friday Prayers Committee in Hamadan province. Semi-official news sites in Iran are trying to downplay the video, the product of an Intelligence Ministry investigation. More interesting is how did the video get leaked?

We’re betting heads will roll.

Literally.

But really if an Iranian religious leader can’t get a little on the side, who can?

Well, in Iran, no one.

Last year in Hamadan a med student was arrested for sitting with her fiancé in a public park. When her family was finally allowed to visit her in jail 48 hours later, she was dead. Police claimed she had hanged herself.

The Post says the government blocked an investigation saying it “would only give the enemy’s propagandists their much-needed opportunity to attack us.”

As for the philandering cleric, one Iranian said: ”One thing we had never seen before was a cleric’s naked butt. Thanks to the Internet, that is no longer impossible!”

See, it’s not war that will spread Democracy, it’s porn.
